Frequently Asked Questions

Home Care Questions

Choosing a caregiver is an important decision. While hiring a private caregiver may seem like a convenient or cost-effective option, it comes with risks and limitations. At Comprehensive Home Health Solutions, we provide highly trained, thoroughly vetted, and reliable caregivers—backed by two board-certified physician owners and a board-certified patient advocate who ensure the highest standard of care and advocacy for our patients.

1. Professional Training & Ongoing Education

private caregiver’s skill set is limited to their past experience. In contrast, Comprehensive Home Health Solutions provides robust initial and ongoing training to our caregivers. We continuously enhance their skills and knowledge to ensure they deliver the highest quality of care.

Unlike private caregivers, our team is directly supported and guided by two board-certified physician owners with over 70 years of combined medical experience and a board-certified patient advocate. This ensures that our caregivers have:

Medical expertise at their fingertips for better care coordination
Advocacy support to help patients navigate complex healthcare challenges
Superior patient outcomes through physician-guided and patient-centered care

  • While private caregivers may have references from past clients, how do you verify their background? At Comprehensive Home Health Solutions, we conduct comprehensive state, federal, criminal, sex offender, and DMV background checks to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
  • Is a private caregiver tuberculosis (TB) screened and tested? Many are not. All caregivers at Comprehensive Home Health Solutions undergo TB screening and testing, ensuring they meet strict health and safety standards.
  • What happens if a private caregiver calls off for the day? Is there a backup plan? With Comprehensive Home Health Solutions, we understand that life happens, and we work diligently to ensure coverage with a replacement caregiver of equal skill and training, so you never go without the care you need.
  • Most private caregivers are not licensed or insured, which can leave you financially and legally vulnerable. Comprehensive Home Health Solutions is a fully licensed and insured agency, meaning we take full responsibility for our caregivers, ensuring you are always protected.

At Comprehensive Home Health Solutions, we are committed to providing safe, professional, and compassionate home care. With our rigorous training, background checks, health screenings, and guaranteed coverage—all backed by two board-certified physician owners and a board-certified patient advocate—you can feel confident that your loved one is in capable and caring hands.

Choosing a private caregiver comes with risks—but with Comprehensive Home Health Solutions, you get professional, reliable, and expertly trained caregivers backed by two board-certified physicians and a board-certified patient advocate for expert care and advocacy.

In most cases, standard health insurance does not cover non-medical home care. However, there are several options that may help with coverage:

✔ Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance – Many LTC policies cover non-medical home care services. We are happy to assist you in completing the necessary paperwork to access your benefits.
Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits – Eligible veterans may receive coverage for home care services through the VA.
Workers’ Compensation & Labor and Industries (L&I) – If care is needed due to a work-related injury, Workers’ Compensation and state-run Labor & Industries (L&I) programs may provide coverage.

In addition to these options, we also have resources on grants and other financial assistance programs that may be available to help cover the cost of care.

📞 Contact us today to discuss your options—we’re happy to guide you through the process!

Because non-medical home care does not require a physician’s order, we can start services as soon as a caregiver is available.

✔ Need urgent care? In some cases, we’ve been able to place a caregiver within just 3 hours of the initial request.
Looking for the right fit? If matching you with the best caregiver for your needs and personality takes time, we may require a day or two to ensure the perfect fit.

At Comprehensive Home Health Solutions, we believe that finding the right caregiver goes beyond just filling a position – it’s about matching the perfect fit for both your medical needs and personal preferences.

Here’s how we choose your caregiver:

  1. Understanding Your Needs: We start by gathering detailed information about your health conditions, daily routines, preferences, and any special requirements you may have.

  2. Experience and Expertise: Based on your needs, we carefully select caregivers who have the experience and skills to meet your specific requirements. This includes matching your medical needs with caregivers who have the relevant expertise, whether that involves assistance with chronic conditions or post-surgery recovery.

  3. Compatibility Matters: We prioritize finding a caregiver who not only meets your medical needs but also fits with your personality and preferences. Our goal is to ensure a caregiver who is compassionate, dependable, and a good match for your lifestyle.

  4. Ongoing Support: Even after a caregiver is assigned, we ensure continuous supervision and are always available to discuss any changes or concerns. If the caregiver is ever not a perfect fit, we are committed to finding someone who is.

Home Health Questions

  • Home health care provides skilled medical services in a patient’s home under the direction of a physician or other medical provider. It is designed for individuals recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, as well as those managing chronic conditions. Home health care helps patients maintain independence while receiving necessary medical attention in their home.
  • To be eligible for home health, patients must need intermittent skilled care to treat their illnesses or injuries and must be unable to leave their homes without considerable effort.  Home health requires an order from a licensed healthcare provider certifying the need for home health and that the patient receiving service is under the care of a licensed healthcare provider.

Home health care provides medical services such as:

  • Skilled nursing care (wound care, IV therapy, medication management)
  • Physical therapy (rehabilitation after surgery, injury, or stroke)
  • Occupational therapy (assistance with regaining daily living skills)
  • Speech therapy (help with speech, swallowing, or cognitive impairments)
  • Chronic disease management (diabetes, heart failure, COPD, etc.)
  • Post-surgical care (monitoring, pain management, recovery support)

For Medicare beneficiaries, home health services continue as long as you have a medical need and meet eligibility requirements. Your healthcare provider must review and re-certify your plan of care—typically every 60 days.

For non-Medicare patients, the number of covered visits depends on your insurance plan. Coverage and duration vary, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider or contacting our office for assistance in verifying your benefits.

  • Home health care is medical and requires licensed professionals such as nurses and therapists to provide skilled care. Non-medical home care, on the other hand, involves assistance with daily activities (like bathing, dressing, and meal preparation) and is typically provided by caregivers or aides.

Yes, Medicare and private insurance often cover home health care if:

  • A healthcare provider prescribes the services

  • The patient meets the home-bound criteria (for Medicare)

  • Skilled medical care is required on an intermittent basis

Coverage may vary based on your specific plan, so checking with your insurance provider is recommended.

Licensed healthcare professionals deliver home health services, including:

  • Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for skilled nursing care

  • Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists for rehabilitation

  • Medical Social Workers to assist with care coordination and resources

  • Home Health Aides (under supervision of a nurse) to provide limited medical support

To qualify for home health care under Medicare, a patient must be homebound, meaning:

  1. Leaving home requires considerable effort due to illness or injury.

  2. A healthcare provider has certified that the patient’s condition makes it difficult or unsafe to leave home without assistance (e.g., from a walker, wheelchair, caregiver, or transportation support).

  3. Trips outside the home are infrequent and primarily for medical care, religious services, or short, essential outings (e.g., haircuts).

Being homebound does not mean you are completely bedridden—you may leave home occasionally, but doing so must be a significant challenge.

If you’re unsure whether you qualify for home health care, contact us today for an eligibility assessment!

  • Home health care offers numerous benefits for patients, including:

    • Reducing hospital readmissions by providing timely, skilled care at home.

    • Providing personalized care in the comfort and familiarity of your own home, promoting faster healing and well-being.

    • Supporting quicker recovery from surgery, illness, or injury with one-on-one care tailored to your needs.

    • Helping manage chronic conditions effectively at home, such as heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory issues, improving quality of life and reducing hospital visits.

    • By choosing home health care, patients experience professional medical services while remaining in a comfortable, healing environment.

To receive home health care:

  1. Speak with your healthcare provider about your medical needs.

  2. You may call our office to request that we obtain the referral from your healthcare provider or ask your healthcare provider to fax the order to us at 225-269-8284.

  3. We will conduct an initial assessment and create a personalized care plan based on your condition and goals.
